Our journey

Founded by Dr. Benjamin Coorey in 2010, Archistar originally began life as an education portal where he passed on his expertise in architecture and generative design to AEC students and design firms. Known as the Archistar Academy, this e-learning platform is now used at top universities and firms all around the world.

What started as a university research project evolved into a groundbreaking platform: one that could read planning rules, run feasibility tests, and generate thousands of compliant designs in minutes. The industry took notice. Architects used it to speed up early-stage design. Developers used it to unlock new opportunities. Governments saw the potential to transform how cities were shaped. But we didn’t stop there.

The missing link:  Instant approval

As we worked with more cities, states, and global clients, we discovered a deeper need—not just to generate buildings, but to get them approved faster and more reliably.

This led to the creation of Archistar AI PreCheck (formerly eCheck), a new open standard that ties building designs to the rules they must follow. With AI PreCheck, every line in a design can be automatically checked against planning and building codes. What once took weeks of back-and-forth can now happen in seconds.

We’re now building an open ecosystem—uniting generative design, site intelligence, and digital permitting into a seamless, automated workflow. Our tools plug into the design software people already use, and our SDKs and APIs open the door to integrations at scale.

The vision forward

Today, Archistar powers digital planning for over 30 cities and governments across Australia, Canada, and the United States to enable the next generation of digital cities. We operate out of offices across Los Angeles, Vancouver, and Sydney to support the largest municipalities in the worlds including LA County, the City of Los Angeles, the City of Austin, and the City of New York.

Our journey has taken us from academic research to global pilot programs, from AI-powered design to smart compliance infrastructure. At every step, the goal remains the same:
